The annual Garioch 200 meet took place over 15 and 16 October in Inverurie supported by Viking Life Saving equipment, the event’s principle sponsor. Garioch ASC would like to thank Andrew Cook and his team for their continued support of the event.
The meet was packed with action and seeing a welcome return to competition in the Inverurie Pool was Olympic Finalist Hannah Miley who took part in the 50m freestyle.
The Garioch swimmers saw the benefit of some hard consolidated training, Ben Barclay achieved a clean sweep, winning all nine of his races over the weekend. Close behind was Nicole Ogg who won all bar one of her races where she achieved a silver. Orla Adams and Finley Cousins was on good early season form with 6 wins. Caitlin Dick and Max Hitchcox both won three races posting strong PB’s on the way. Ceri Gillespie swam fantastically in a fiercely competitive 10-12 year old girls category winning gold in the 200m free and taking huge chunks of time off, including a 57 second improvement in her 200m Breast. Alistair Miley secured gold in the 50m Fly.
Outside of the Gold’s but in the medals were Laura Allen, Catherine Boddie, Matthew Dick, Fraser Johnston, Joseph Miley, Hannah Strachan, Sean Whelan-Duenas and Bill Whitcombe. Also competing for Garioch were Amira Cheyne, Amy Coutts, Nula Gow, Abbie Killoh, Kenzie Masson, Ben McLaughlin, Molly Mutch, Heather Rae and Luke Wraight.
It was a massive event to put together, Shona Strachan the meet organiser, in particular, put in a huge amount of effort and as a result the meet went ahead without a hitch and to time. The catering, which was of a staggeringly high standard was provided by local Boutique Caterers Vanilla Chocolate.
A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers and officials that travelled to help support GARIOCH ASC this weekend without their help the meet would have not been able to take place, along with our other sponsors and Aberdeenshire council pool staff.
Thanks also go to the coaches Eavan Adams (GASC’s Head Coach) and Steven Dick ably supported by David Adams who was making sure the commentary was well heard by everyone.
GASC are also actively looking for support for the swimming pool in the New Community Campus. For any information or support please see our website www.gasc.co.uk and contact the club secretary.
