It was cold outside but the action in the pool was red hot for the North District Age group meet over the weekend of 26 November with no less than 4 new club records. This is a large meet and puts the best North District age group swimmers up to the age of 14 in groups 10-12 and 13-14 against each other to see how they stand in the district.
Garioch Amateur Swimming club were represented by 15 of it’s swimmers many of whom were swimming the full 15 events over the weekend.
Leading the medal haul and breaking 4 club records, Ben Barclay’s free was majestic, with a clean sweep of club records in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m events and a total of 10 gold’s, close behind was Finley Cousins, breaking the 50m fly record, two golds and 2 further podium sports. Nicole Ogg was also on great form winning the 200m and 400m IM and two further silvers in the 200m and 100m free and bronze in the 50m breast. Matthew Dick was swimming well with strong PB’s backed up by a silver in the 200m fly and bronze in the 400m free. Caitlin Dick secured a host of PB’s and achieved a bronze in the 200m back. Ben McLaughlin was really unlucky achieving a fantastic 4th place despite only being 10 in the 10-12 age group in the gruelling 200m fly.
As usual the rest of the team backed up the medal winners with some amazing PB’s, the rest of the squad comprised Laura Allen, Catherine Boddie, Amira Cheyne, Ceri Gillespie, Nula Gow, Abbie Killoh, Hannah Strachan, Sean Whelan-Duenas and Bill Whitcombe.
Backing up the swimmers were a great team of coaches, Steven Dick and Emma Barclay.
