The yearly pilgrimage to Inverness took place at the weekend of the 24th and 25th November 2018 for the North District Age Group Meet where the best 10-14 year old from the North District were competing. Hotels were booked well in advance by many parents in anticipation of this event. Seventeen Garioch swimmers had accepted swims over the weekend, in fact some had the full programme of fifteen swims which is a great effort.
Over the weekend the team won 18 medals and achieved an amazing 102 PB’s between them, this was a great effort and could have been more if it wasn’t for some tough judging where an unusually large amount of DQ’s were being handed out for this level of event. Johanna who had been DQ’d in her first two swims bounced back to win two golds as well as four other podium finishes, Catherine carried on her great form with a gold, silver and bronze as well as 13 PB’s, Ceri won three silvers, Nula a silver and a bronze, Ben also won a silver and bronze, Kyle and Fraser also won a bronze apiece.
The Garioch swimmers attending were as follows: Laura Allan, Catherine Boddie, James Boddie, Tessa Boyd, Layton Burr, Isaac Chirnside, Oscar Chirnside, Alex Clark, Ellen Denny, Isla Garden, Ceri Gillespie, Nula Gow, Johanna Mackenzie, Kenzie Masson, Ben McLaughlin, Kyle Mitchell and Fraser Tetlow.
Thanks to Richard and Craig who coached poolside as well as all those who officiated over the weekend.
Apart from the upcoming Scottish Short Course Championship that some of the Squad 5 athletes may qualify for and the Santa Elves Meet where the younger swimmers will compete, for the majority this was the final event of 2018. The team have improved massively over the year through hard work and dedication to their sport and i like many of the parents watch in awe at the talent and hard work on display in training and at meets. They are all a credit to the club and are the biggest asset GASC has and i’m sure we are all proud to support them as best we can.
