Eighteen swimmers from GASC competed in the Aberdeen City and South Aberdeenshire Scottish School Qualifiers on Thursday 22nd November 2018 at ASV all hoping to qualify for the finals that take place at Tollcross on the 26th January 2019.
Five secondary schools and three primary schools were represented by swimmers from Team Garioch. Each secondary pupil had up to two swims in 100m or 200m events and the primary pupils were limited to one swim in a 50m event. The qualifying times were quite tight so it was great to see so many Garioch swimmers competing, the field was strong but there were great performances from the group with all swimmers acheving times below their seeded times and twenty-two accredited PB’s being achieved shared out between them on the day.
Ceri won both her 100m and 200m freestyle age group events, Amira won in her 200m backstroke category, Johanna won in the 200m IM and Ben finished first in the 200m free. The primary school swimmers were equally as successful with Isla Garden winning the girls 50m fly and Oscar and Miguel finishing equal first in their 50m backstroke duel.
With up to only three swimmers from each region able to qualify for each event, places at Tollcross are difficult to achieve but fingers crossed that a few Garioch swimmers make it.
Other Garioch swimmers who all competed brilliantly on the day were Catherine, James, Tessa, Layton, Isaac, Alex, Amy, Ellen Denny, Kenzie, Ellen McDonald and Kyle.
