So the Xmas decorations are down and back in the attic for another year, the selection boxes and Quality Streets are finished apart from the toffee pennies and the coconut ones so that means it’s time to start racing again!
The anuual SAS New Year Meet took place at Westhill on the 12th and 13th of January and was a chance for some of the less experienced swimmers to compete against swimmers over longer distances than they are accustomed, also it gave some of the squad swimmers accredited times for events they missed last year.
Eleven Garioch swimmers attended the meet across the four sessions and golds were won in each Session:
Session 1 saw Isla Garden and Ellen McDonald swim brilliantly and both won golds in their respective age groups for the 800m Freestyle events
Session 2 In his final swim for Garioch, Layton Burr won a gold in the 400m IM, swimming the second fastest time across all age groups. Onwards and upwards Layton!
Session 3 Kyle Mitchell won gold and swam a solid 1500m freestyle with a great time under 20 minutes
Session 4 Final gold of the meet for Garioch was won by James Boddie who swam a great 400m freestyle in the 11 year old boy event.
There were some promising performances from Kristina Misovicova who won a bronze in the 200m Backstroke, Isla Reid and Iona Leishman also swam well and had a couple of massive PB’s over the weekend
The full list of swimmers who attended were: Jesseka Beaumont, James Boddie, Layton Burr, Amy Cowan. Isla Garden, Iona Leishman, Kirsty MacLachlan, Ellen McDonald, Kristina Misovicova, Kyle Mitchell, and Isla Reid
Thanks to all who helped poolside organising an ever changing team line up and to all those who provided STO duties.
Always remember swimming is fun, each time you swim have lots of fun!
